Jag undrar ibland om det går att förena seriositet och informellt anslag? Mina erfarenheter från akademin pekar tyvärr mot att det är svårt. Den här rapporten gräver i frågan.
This paper describes a small-scale study which investigates the role of blogging in professional academic practice in higher education. It draws on interviews with a sample of academics (scholars, researchers and teachers) who have blogs and on the author’s own reflections on blogging to investigate the function of blogging in academic practice and its contribution to academic identity. It argues that blogging offers the potential of a new genre of accessible academic production which could contribute to the creation of a new twenty-first century academic identity with more involvement as a public intellectual.

Rapportens resonemang om identiteten som berättelse är intressant och slår delvis huvudet på spiken (“It creates identity through the production of what Giddens (1994) describes as a narrative about the self, but it also does this by providing an alternative medium through which to do it”.) Tankarna söker sig osökt till Goffans “The presentation of self in everyday life” där bloggen kan utgöra en scen, av flera, på vilken man spelar sin roll som (i mitt fall) förskolechef på… Fördelen är att det är lättare att styra intrycket av den karaktär man skisserar.
