The biggest sadness of my career here in Canada was to see the change in the Kindergarten curriculum from child-centred learning and teaching to one which expected ”results” based on government testing standards. After my retirement, I volunteered in a pre-kindergarten classroom and witnessed the horror. Brand-new-to-school 3 year olds who were expected to print their names properly within the first week and weren’t allowed to play with any materials until they had done their ”work” for the day. All of them were stressed out, crying and exhausted at the end of each day. It is a crime against humanity.

Thanks for sharing Lynn!
I hope we are able to stand up against these changes here in Sweden. The curriculum is still open and child centered – though a lot of techers seems to embrace the thought of learning in a very shallow way.
I’m rather optimistic today. Could be summer coming..
